Trick Hunt
A downloadable game
Join these Crafty Crooks as they take on a highly profitable job from a shifty merchant. You'll infiltrate a huge room from a tiny perspective and race against the clock to collect items as you explore.
This game is a submission for the 2023 Robot Party Game Jam. You can learn about the very specific rules it needed to follow here!
I'll be updating this page a lot more in the coming days. Looking forward to playing everyone else's games!

Illustrations by Groggy! Some original plans for the shreds had them pathing about a little bit and trying to avoid the player. This didn't end up being especially fun as there was a limited amount of space I'd want them to path anyways. I did want them to still jiggle around a bit on the spot and animate but depending on how I did this it started conflicting with the dynamic mesh cutter. Eventually I just ran out of time!
More of the illustrations Groggy (aka groglox on Twitch) prepared for the game can be seen here!
The four big shreds, also illustrated by Groggy, were also planned to have some very simple mechanics to haev them stand out more. For starters they'd each be able to take a few hits each
Deputy Dovens located up on the shelf would fold up and take flight, requiring the player to hit him with tape to bring him down. |
Sherrif Froggie on the bed was going to shoot scrunched up paper balls packed with physics to knock back George. |
Unicorn Bandito would've dashed off, pathing around the floor level and leaving obstacles for George. |
Crock-Pot-Ctapus would've sprayed patterns of foam, coating the aquarium. You'd tape rocks behind him, pulling them into him, to deal damage. |
I was hoping to have all of the sound effects recorded myself, but many of them got pushed back and eventually I used some existing assets. I did manage to get all of their dialogue sounds, tape grappling hook sounds and paper slicing sounds done though!
There were a ton of plans for Craig that just didn't make it in time. Most importantly is that he would've been a bit of a jerk. Bumping into the player, crawling all over George's face, getting in the way of the camera's view (like it needed any more difficulties!), etc. None of this made it in and it left the rest of the gang feeling a bit mean spirited towards Craig.
The original plan for the inventory included much more functionality. All of the items you collected would've been displayed there and a map, accessed similar to the options page, would've given you some approximate locations of remaining shreds. There were even plans to have George slowly grow larger as you start cramming more objects in him.
More coming soon!

Trick Hunt v0.97
- Major camera improvement. I didn't have the player's collider set for the camera >_>.
- Added a few dialogue lines to make things clearer.
- Music cutout if switching between zones too quickly should be fixed.
- I think I fixed the cinematic camera + chest opening bug.
-
Trick Hunt v0.96
- Fixed some potential geometry holes. Should hopefully solve getting stuck.
- Added some inventory screen buttons to access my debug tools incase anyone gets stuck again.
- Adjusted some colliders that were likely the cause of music issues.
- Spamming attacks or jumps when a dialogue triggers shouldn't break things anymore.
- Fixed a similar issue where spamming attacks or jump at the end of a dialogue might've locked controls.
- Options panel toggles fixed.
- Fixed a small timer bug that could've resulted in a soft lock.
-
Trick Hunt v0.955
- Fixed the dialogue not happening when all shreds are collected.
- Fixed a potential reason why the repair notebook stage was not completing.
- Fixed the time over resulting in an endless loop.

I managed to clear it though using debug mode!
I was a little concerned about the fact that I had to take all the extra items to clear the game, and the camera behavior which tends to cause a little 3D sickness.
But more than that, it was a very memorable game with many points I loved, such as the great feeling when using scissors, the stylishness of the conversational UI, which is on par with AAA titles, and the inorganic friends with rich personalities and expressions, MEOW!
Really cool style and presentation! The menu especially is really nice. Unfortunately I got stuck in the terrain twice. Once on the ramp up to the first drawer of the dresser, and then on the next ramp to the second drawer. Both times I fell between two objects that make up the ramp.
Sorry to hear that! I've uploaded an update where I expanded some colliders and overlapped additional geometry to hopefully solve that for anyone else trying. Thanks for giving it a shot!
No problem! I'll be sure to go back to it. I was very into what I played.
